Dr. Karin Westlen-Boyer DPT, has worked as a Physical therapist for over 30 years. She has worked in outpatient Orthopedics for most of this time and has for the past 15 years specialized in Pelvic issues. Karin decided to start her own clinic when she got tired of the constant pressure to see more patients during the day and to be more productive, even with a full schedule. Now she enjoys quality time with her patients and has the ability to schedule as she and her patients feel the need. With this transition she has also noticed she has better time to communicate with a patients care-giver about their patients care.

How the ACT System works
We follow the ACT Method: ACT: Align, Condition, Thrive!
Align
When you first come to FlowMobility Physical therapy we will usually work on relaxing your muscles and Aligning them with the joints and bones they are connected to. This occurs through manual therapy and gentle exercises as well as breathing techniques (the Diaphragm and Pelvic floor work together). This relaxation and aligning occurs during the first 1-4 visits.
Once your muscles are aligned and relaxed, we can start to condition the muscles in their relaxed state. If we first start to condition a muscle that is tight, it will become even tighter and then more tender.
Condition
When the muscles can contract and relax well and are in their correct position, we start conditioning the muscles. We do this by having you do many repetitions with light weight, and this is often during the next 5-8 visits. Often patients are starting to feel better at this point and some can want to quit physical therapy.
Thrive
We urge you to continue your therapy so you can start working in the strengthening phase, re-learning to lift, run and have good control of your bladder. This is when you end with you Thriving!
You can now do the activities you have not been able to do prior to your weakness and pain. The “Thrive”- time is usually the last 8-12 visits. At this point you will know how to activate your muscles, you will know what to do to continue to strengthen your muscles and you will be doing teh activities you love.
